El Tipico is also known for its exceptional margaritas—classic and frozen varieties alike—bursting with citrus tang and just the right kick. One memorable experience even involved a thoughtful server enhancing the drink by adding a splash of Don Julio, elevating the vibe and delight of the evening. If cocktails aren't your cup of tea, their Aguas Frescas and Mexican Coke in a bottle provide refreshing alternatives that complement the meal perfectly.
Families will find a welcoming spot here too, with a kid's menu that thoughtfully includes favorites like One Bean & Cheese Chalupa and a Quarter Pound Hamburger, making it easy to please the little ones without straying from the authentic experience. The friendly, attentive service that guests often highlight makes dining here not just about the food, but about feeling valued and well cared for—whether it’s a quick lunch or a leisurely weekend breakfast.
While some visitors note minor quirks—like being surprised by a strawberry margarita instead of a regular one—these moments often turn into charming stories shared with a laugh, reflecting the genuine, unpretentious spirit of the place. It’s clear that El Tipico aims to offer both quality food and a relaxed, joyful dining experience where the staff treats you like family.
If you’re exploring San Antonio’s vibrant food scene, El Tipico Restaurant offers a genuine taste of Mexico with dishes that comfort as much as they excite—inviting you back again and again to savor each bite, each sip, and each moment spent in their cheerful embrace.
First time visiting, and it was a really good experience. Our food was delicious, and the service was great and quick. My only small gripe was the margarita — I asked for a regular one but got a strawberry margarita instead. No complaints on the taste, it was actually really good so I didn’t say anything but I did notice we were charged an extra dollar for the strawberry flavor, lol. Either way, we’ll definitely be back! The tortillas were amazing! But I won’t be ordering a $16 Margarita.
Nice atmosphere and okay food. This place was recommended to me for the puffy tacos which were pretty decent. The cheese enchiladas were good but they used processed cheese for everything. American cheese is fine it’s the enchiladas are 6.99 but at these prices, no thanks. The floor tortillas had that nice dense homemade flavor to them. Oh and that big chunk of meat on top of the enchilada was very pink inside.
food was good service was the best waiter brang margeritas very quick and wrre good butttt were great when i dumped a shot of don julio in there ....waiter also gave us butter with the excellent tortillas he brang....andy
It was Saturday morning, we wanted IHOP but it was too far/expensive. We decided to go to Walmart since we didn’t know what we wanted so my husband just pulls in here. I was in love with the decorations from the moment I walked in, I didn’t know I was guna become attached lol We sat down and the waiter was super nice and he tells us “Did you want to eat here” we look at him and laugh and we’re like “Yeah we’re sitting down” and then he said “We have a buffet and we also have to order off the menu” we look at each other and we were shocked. YA’LL! This place is amazing! By far our favorite spot! The food was delicious. We literally tried everything! Pancakes, Omelettes, eggs, toast, French toast are all made to order how you want. The food is fresh and taste so good! The tortillas are homemade and hot. The beans are homemade refried beans! The huevos rancheros sauce is my favorite!! Btw I love the faucets lol Definitely give them a shot!
